Welcome to Artemisia, a residential community of artists and other creative people in Second Life. There are lots of places to see art in SL. Lots of ways to make art. Even to be art. Our personae in SL are extensions of ourselves, creative acts just by being here and presenting ourselves in an intentional way. There is so much to see and do. But we need to stop and get a bit of depth once in a while, not just breadth.
Artemisia is the creation of Zephyre Zabelin. Her vision was to invite interesting people to come and share this wonderful space and to give them as much freedom as possible to let it inspire. What it has evolved into is a small, friendly community of fun and interesting people who appreciate the beauty of this place and who want to be a part of it. Who want to be inspired by it.
There’s a fundamental difference between looking at art and living with it. The amazing shows we present at the Galerie de la Vie are well attended and showcase the top artists in SL. Please explore our island fully and bring your friends. We welcome visitors with much enthusiasm. We want to share our joy and wonder. But the galleries on Artemisia are really here for us, the residents. We see the shows in the Galerie every day for a month or so. I may not go in and look at every piece every day, but there’s always something new I hadn’t noticed before. I get to live with art every day and really get to know it. It makes me think and it makes me want to create. That’s what Artemisia is for. Giving people a chance to experience this world deeply and to let it affect them.
It’s a real privilege to be able to live in a place like this. To contribute to the common inspiration of my neighbors. When we pay our monthly rents, we don’t just rent a parcel. We can do that anywhere. Our payments support the work of our friends and colleagues on the island and they support the wonderful opportunities for people across SL to experience the fun and inspiration of this place. We invite you to visit and, if it seems like something you want to be involved with, to consider joining us as a resident.
