Artemisia News

July 24, 2008

Please welcome RobertSteven Smythe to Artemisia as the new Director/Curator for the Galerie de la Vie. Robert comes to us on recommendation and with the full support of Mariposa Upshaw, director of the Angel Dorei Museum. I have been a fan of Angel Dorei and the museum there from nearly my first day in SL. Since Mari took the helm at the museum, she has presented some of the most interesting new artists in SL, especially those using SL as a medium. So I knew she would be a great person to ask for advice in finding someone to manage the Galerie at Artemisia. I can't believe our good fortune to have Robert on board. He is very well connected to the SL art world and he has great energy and business sense. He understands our mission to serve art over all else. This is a real turning point in the path of Artemisia. I look forward to a long and fruitful future with exciting new shows to bring the art loving public to our home for inspiration and fun.

Robert's first task is managing the closing of the current show in the Galerie. Wolk Writer's exhibition has been a real joy to have. It's been up much longer than I intended, mostly because I haven't wanted to see it go. But we must move on and give other great artists the opportunity to show their work. Fortunately, Wolk will still be with us at Artemisia with her small studio right next door to the Galerie.
